Sound Reinforcement Services

Anthony Walker Music provides professional sound reinforcement services. This page describes the equipment used for large venues. Smaller permutations are possible for smaller events. The large system described here is very powerful (1,800 watts continuous per side). However, this 4-way stereo system is optimized for fidelity. This system sounds like studio monitor speakers not like a PA. You won't find sound reinforcement anywhere that sounds better than this one. Also note that optional On-Location Recording Services are available when purchasing Sound Reinforcement Services. Click here for photos and description of recent sound reinforcement events.

Monitors: JBL 300 watt 15" powered EON speakers, headphones for drums and Shure wireless.

Front Of House Speakers:
JBL SR4732X 3-way 1200 watt speakers (each side)
JBL SR4718X 18" 600 watt subWoofer (each side)

NOTE: Also available is the use of JBL SR722 speakers. Two per side yields 2400 watts per side and a wider dispersion angle. Larger subWoofers are used with the SR722s. The SR722 speakers are used with the Drive Rack digital electronic crossover to obtain the same frequency response as the SR4732s. The wider dispersion can sometimes allow the system to run softer because there are fewer volume hot spots with smooth distribution.

Power Amps: 3 Mackie 1400I 1000 watt/8ohms per side

Electronic Crossovers: Ashly XR-1001 on each side

Whirlwind Medusa 32x8 250 foot snake with MilSpec connectors (Typical Channel Assignments)

Mackie 32x4 mixer (32 channels/4 bus/6 aux send)

Microphones: SM57, SM58, SM81, AKG 414ULS, RE20, MD42, wireless etc.

Lexicon and Yamaha digital effects.

Why is this an audiophile system?

Most sound companies design their systems for volume and shocking bass. Ever notice how you can always tell the difference between an acoustic band versus an amplified band just by listening. The problem is that the PA does not accurately reproduce the sound and you can hear the sound of the electronics.

This system is designed for accuracy and transparancy. That is, you should hear the instruments not the electronics. This is possible because of the incredible JBL quality configured in a 4-way system. That is, subWoofer for low bass, 12" speakers for vocal midRange, high frequency horn for instrument harmonics and superTweeter for very high harmonics. Inferior systems do not typically contain superTweeters.

The speaker system is supported by stereo 3-way electronic crossovers which split the audio spectrum into 3 bands before the signals are amplified by the power amps. Crossovers are more accurate if they can function with line level signals before the power amps. These three bands then go to 3 power amps on each side of the stage. The result is a great sound. This is not the lightest or least expensive way to put a sound reinforcement system together but it is the way to create the best sound.

Affordable Sound Systems!

In addition to the large audiophile sounds systems, we also provide supply lower power sound reinforcement systems for smaller venues which we can tailor to the needs of your event. For example, we have Mackie Powered Mixers and JBL EON speakers that work well in this situation. Our smaller systems are also unbeatable. You can use them for smaller events and people will be blown away by the sound quality. You could even set them up in your room, so while you're messing around on the internet, playing online casino or just hanging out with mates, you can always have an amazing sound.

How does the audiophile system it work?

The medusa snake allows 32 microphones to be located on the stage. The microphone signals are sent to the Mackie mixer located up to 250' away and connected via quick disconnect military spec multi-pin connectors. The system has 4 of these $500 connectors.

The mic signals are mixed on the mackie mixer (with effects and EQ where appropriate) and sent back to the stage via two of the 8 returns on the medusa snake. These two signals connect from the stage medusa box to the electronic crossovers on each side of the stage. The electronic crossovers connect to 3 power amps on each side of the stage which connect to the speakers. The crossover is 3-way and the speaker system is 4-way. This is because the superTweeter is passively crossed over because the power required at super high frequencies is small.

The mixer provides 6 aux sends that can be used for effect sends or monitor mixes. Up to 6 monitor mixes can be sent to the stage. Normally, 3 mixes are sent and 3 effects can be used. The 4 subBusses can also be used for monitor sends. Monitor sends are sent to the stage via wireless connection of via the returns on the medusa snake. The system supports 2 wireless monitor channels, on headphone monitor channel (for the drummer) and two JBL EON floor monitors.
